water is fundamentalOver the years, Clean Water Fund’s programs have grown to encompass a wide range of environmental and health concerns. But all of these issues and all of our work connect to clean, safe and affordable water. This remains the fundamental core of our work.
Our issues have never been more important than they are today. They cut across the entire spectrum of environmental concerns.
The Midwest is blessed with such an abundance of windy terrain, especially in the Great Plains states of North and South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska – so much so that it is sometimes referred to as the “Saudi Arabia of wind energy.” South Dakota ranks fourth in the U.S. in renewable energy potential, with a potential power output of 117,200 MW. South Dakota has just begun to tap its outstanding wind resources. As of January 2004, South Dakota had only 44.48 MW of installed and projected wind energy capacity, and no new wind projects planned.
Each year, Aveda Corporation selects nonprofit organizations as Earth Month Partners. Last year, Aveda's global spa, store and salon network raised over $2 million in support of clean water worldwide, which was distributed among local Earth Month partners. For the second year in a row Aveda Corporation selected Clean Water Fund as an Earth Month Partner. Aveda salons in Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota held Earth Month events this past spring to benefit Clean Water Fund and make clean water a human right.
