North Dakota Programs

North Dakota is a state with a long history of clean air, clean water, and plenty of open space. North Dakota is often called the Saudi Arabia of wind, and for good reason!  The state has the largest potential for wind energy development in the United States. Yet the potential has barely been tapped with less than 1% of the state’s energy coming from wind.

The economic and environmental benefits of wind power are indisputable. There are virtually no external costs with wind power. The fuel is free, there are no health affects or environmental costs, and there are no federal subsidies given to the wind industry.

In 2007, North Dakota created a statewide renewable and recycled energy objective that 10 percent of all electricity sold at retail within the state is obtained from renewable energy and recycled energy sources by the year 2015.
